When you’re in it, it’s hard to do it alone

Weekend morning truths (aka joy notes) If you have ever wondered what it feels like to go from heavy to light, from in your head to in your body, from scattered to grounded - here’s a story for you. All true. All me. All for you. xoxo Christine

Hey there beautiful!

This week, I’ve been reflecting about the wisdom of my body, and the power of pain and presence.

And I keep coming back to this:
➡️ I wonder if pain diminishes when we feel, sense or know that we are not alone in the health journey. (Hello “co-regulation”).

➡️ Being present with the pain, while not trying to shut it down or change it, can actually give it more space to breathe, release, change and show you something else; and a different energetic possibility.

Unknowingly in that doctor’s office in sharing my body’s story, I was able to truly connect with not just the pain, but the story and energy underneath it, and be witnessed by another while doing so.

There is something incredibly vulnerable about knowing something in your body isn’t right…

-> trying to listen closely…

-> trying to advocate for yourself…

-> trying to stay grounded…

…and still leaving appointments feeling dismissed, unseen, or unsupported.

All you really want in those moments is an advocate.
This is not just for medical professionals, but this includes your friends, family members and support people.

All we want is to be seen, heard and listened to.

Most of us don’t want to be told what to do. We want to be received just as we are - even if it is messy. Whether we are talking to our mom, dad, favorite auntie, neighbour, partner, therapist, doctor or cashier. Telling our story is part of the therapy. Not being told how to fix it.

  • Someone who will meet you with curiosity instead of correction.
  • Someone who won’t make you feel like a problem to be solved or a nuisance to be managed.Someone who can be with you long enough to help you understand what your body might be asking for.

I tell my clients all the time that they have wisdom within them.
I believe that deeply.

And I also know this:

It is much harder to access your inner knowing when you are in pain.

When you’re physically uncomfortable…
when you’re emotionally overwhelmed…
when your mind is spinning…
when your nervous system is activated…

it can be very difficult to feel spacious, clear, and connected to yourself.

That doesn’t mean your wisdom is gone.
It means you may need support to hear it.

One of the most meaningful parts of this appointment was that this doctor apologized to me.

Three times.

She apologized for what I had experienced.
She apologized for the limitations of the medical model.
She brought humanity into the room.

And what she offered wasn’t just a prescription.
She offered partnership.

She said, in essence: let’s stay curious and figure this out, together.

That matters.

Because sometimes what helps us heal is not only treatment.

-> Healing begins when we are met, seen and heard.

-> It begins when we don’t feel alone anymore.

-> It’s the moment another human being says, I believe you, and I’m willing to explore this with you.

If you’re in any kind of pain right now — physical, emotional, mental, spiritual — I want to say this gently:

You are not failing because it feels hard to find your clarity.
You are not weak because you need support.
You are not “too much” because you want someone to listen well.

Pain can make everything louder.
Support can make everything more possible.

Sending You Big Love,

xoxo Christine
