How My POS Machine Brought Me Back to Presence

Hey there sunshine!

What does presence look like? What does it feel like to be grounded and connected with yourself in this moment?

Often, we know what presence is not. We know when we are overwhelmed, under pressure, distracted, or moving so quickly that our patience and ability to listen becomes diminished.

But what if we think we are present—and we actually are not?

The other day, I was heading from home to my office for a client session. It is maybe a five-minute drive. I had my backpack, water, coffee, and my little Square POS machine in my hands. I packed the car, went to my office, and carried on with my evening.

My client did not need the POS machine that day, so I did not take it out of my bag.

Five days later, I had this little thought: Where is my POS machine?

A few days after that, on Friday morning, I opened the back door of my Jeep Cherokee to put my coffee thermos on the roof—and there it was.

My POS machine had been sitting on the roof of my vehicle for five days.

Outside. Around town. In the wind, weather, and whatever else life brought its way.

I picked it up so tenderly. It was cold, heavy, and dead. I brought it inside, plugged it in, and said a little prayer: “Please come back to life. I’m so sorry I forgot you.”

And then it did.

The screen woke up. It worked. No scratches. No damage. A genuine miracle, in my eyes.

Thank you, universe. Thank you, God. Thank you, Creator. Thank you, Jeep Cherokee. Thank you, little POS machine.

And thank you for the reminder.

Because in that moment five days earlier, I was physically at my car—but I was already somewhere else. I was already in the session. Already moving into what was next. I was going from A to B out of habit, not fully in the moment I was in.

This is not about perfection. We all leave things on the roof of our cars, put things in the wrong place, or move through a day distracted.

But perhaps these moments can be invitations.

How present are you right now?

Are you moving through this moment in habit—or with the fullness of you?

What would it be like to slow down just enough to tend to your body, your people, your home, and your things with loving care?

For me, the way back is simple: feet on the earth, a breath, moving my body with awareness, and noticing how I am moving through space rather than simply moving.

It takes only a heartbeat.

Pause with yourself today, my friends. Arrive in the moment of you.

Peace and joy,

Love and kindness,

xoxo Christine
